Every year the major paint companies release their choice of “color of the year”. Based on what they see as trends, starting with the colors they may see at fashion week in the major cities of the world, they mix and tint and claim new colors with hip new names.
Pantone’s new color of the year is Ultra Violet 18-3838. It is true to its name. Labeled as a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, it is very violet.
Benjamin Moore’s new color of the year is Caliente AF-290. Described as strong, radiant and full of energy. It also is true to its name. Very warm. Very red.
Sherwin Williams color of the year is Oceanside SW 6496. Defined as a collision of rich blue with jewel-toned green. Very blue. Very ocean-like.
With a wide range of “Paint Color of the Year 2018” it is apparent that paint colors continue to be a very personal choice. It is fun to be trendy and use new and bold colors, but when selling or showing a home, the best decision is to stick with neutrals and let prospective buyers visualize their preferred colors of the year.
