Did You Know?

Staging your home for showings during the holidays can be a fine balancing act. You want to enjoy the season with the decorations you are accustomed to and traditions that your family enjoys. But you cannot overwhelm a buyer with too many personal and ornamental things or they are unable to see the house or imagine themselves in it.

Begin with some easy DIY steps to improve the air quality in your home.

No Smoking. If there’s a smoker in the family, designate an outdoor smoking area. Keeping smoke out of the house is essential.

Control the moisture. Air conditioning and a clean furnace filter is the best approach. Add a dehumidifier in problem damp areas to ensure against mold and mites.

Reduce cleaning toxins. Pay attention to the products you use in your home, from cleaning supplies to paint and repair products. Using natural cleaning solutions rather than stronger, more toxic ones, will maintain a healthy air quality without adding to the problem you are trying to improve.

Vacuum frequently. Using a vacuum with a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter is an effective way to curb the dust mites, pollen, and animal dander.

Ventilate properly. The most important two area are the bathroom and the cooktop in the kitchen. Both of these areas create perfect environments for unsafe air quality. Venting and extracting cooking fumes and moisture laden air reduces the chances of buildup.
