A cool place to take kids this summer, or anytime of the year, is the Idaho Heritage Museum right here in Twin Falls, Idaho. The Idaho Heritage Museum is spread over more than 7000 square feet and houses one of the largest private owned artifact and animal collections in the United States. Loaded with over 20,000 artifacts and 300 mounted animals the museum is one of the largest privately-owned collections in the United States.
Small and large life-sized mounted game animals displayed in their natural habitats, including a Bison and a now extinct Bison Latifrons are included in the collection and on display.
Native American arrowheads, spears, knives and bone tools. An atlatl weapon used by ancient hunters to bring down huge animals. Gold and silver coins. Guns including commemorative rifles and old West Colt revolvers. A fun and educational museum will make a good field trip on a rainy or blistering hot day. Native American Culture- Fantastic bead work and clothing, including Chief Pocatello’s Gloves. They have one of the largest collections of Trade Beads on display and many Murals depicting a forgotten way of life.
Over 300 large and small game animals in their natural habitat including the complete North American Slam for Bighorn Sheep, the complete World Slam for Moose and Caribou, and many record class big game animals. Have you ever seen an Albino Rock Chuck? You’ll see it here. They also have a huge bird collection including Waterfowl, Pheasants, and hundreds of game birds.
They are proud to show off our display of the 3 Precious Metals..Gold, Silver and Guns!!! — Winchester and Commemorative Rifles, Colt Revolvers(The guns that won the West). Gold and Silver coins, and a belt made entirely of Morgan Silver Dollars from 1878-1904.
Located at 2390 and Highway 90 South in Twin Falls, the museum is open Wednesday through Sunday 11 A.M. to 4 P.M.
